Sam Houston State dropped the second of a weekend series against Texas-Arlington, 7-4 which evens the series at one win a piece. The Bearkats came through on Friday night/Saturday morning to win the resumption of the series opener, but didn't quite have enough to do it again to the Mavericks.
Sam Houston did most of its work in the third inning in which they posted the four runs. Jake Arrington brought home a pair to cut a 3-0 lead to one run. Freshman shortstop Corey Toups followed that up with a two-run single to give the Kats a 4-3 advantage.
But the Mavericks (28-20, 15-11 Southland) took advantage of three Bearkat errors.
Starting pitcher Justin Jackson was gone after four innings. Brandon Bergen relieved him and was given the loss after allowing two runs to score.
Michael Oros (6-1) will take the mound for the Bearkats on Sunday in the deciding third game of the series. For Oros, it will be the first weekend start of the year.
