Houston Vs. Rice Baseball: Owls Win Series Finale Over Cougars 8-2

The Rice Owls came back to win the final two games against the Houston Cougars to win the Silver Glove series. In the final game of the series Rice easily defeated Houston 8-2. The Rice offense scored five runs in the first five innings with three coming off of Houston starting pitcher Jordan Mannisto. Mannisto pitched only three innings and gave up eight hits, three walks and three runs.

Rice was up 5-2 after five innings and the game was still in reach for Houston to mount a comeback. Codey Morehouse came in for relief for Houston and gave up no runs in the bottom of the six inning, but he allowed three runs in the bottom of the seventh which secured the win for Rice.

John Simms got the start for Rice and improved to 4-0 on the year by pitching 5.2 innings and allowed only three hits and three walks, two runs and struck out four in the win. Rice brought out Tyler Duffey to pitch the rest of the way and he gave up two hits, two walks, struck out three but most importantly gave up no runs for his fourth save of the season.

Rice right fielder Jeremy Rathjen led the way offensively by going 3-for-3, three RBI, scored two runs and had a walk.
