The Aggies are currently ranked tenth by Baseball America with a 34-14 record and are tied for second in the Big 12 at 13-8 with Texas and Oklahoma State. Going into this past weekend's series with Texas Tech (A&M won 2 of 3), most publications had the gents from College Station pegged as a regional host.
SEBaseball.com has them hosting Arkansas, Sam Houston State, and Rhode Island.
The noted college baseball enthusiasts at ESPN (haloljkno) also have Arkansas traveling to College Station, along with USC and Manhattan.
College Baseball Daily isn't sold on A&M just yet, as they have the Aggies traveling to Rice with Sam Houston State and Stony Brook.
A&M will host The Fightin' Tony Gwynns of San Diego State (22-27) this weekend, play Texas State next Tuesday, and travel to Stillwater to face OSU May 17th.
The Aggies can and should sweep SDSU and TSU, and need to beat Oklahoma State next weekend to lock up a host.
Why is that, you ask?
Well, Texas closes out the regular season against Baylor, which most likely will be a series loss. That means A&M-OSU will be for second place in the conference. The Aggies have a better record and RPI (according to Warren Nolan) than Texas and Oklahoma State, but a series loss could give the host to someone outside the conference (probably an SEC team).
Despite the series being only their third jaunt outside the Lonestar State this season, I think the Aggies win 2 and play at home in June.
