Sam Houston State avoided elimination as they defeated Prairie View A&M 4-2 on Saturday afternoon. A three-run fifth inning for Sam Houston State is what fueled them to victory. The fifth inning got started when John Hale made it to second base on a throwing error, and then he was moved over to third base on a Jessie Plumlee infield bunt single. Then the bases were loaded on another Prairie View A&M error on another bunt attempt which loaded the bases.
The first two runs came when Colt Atwood hit a two-RBI single up the middle to give Sam Houston State a 2-1 lead. The third run of the inning came when Luke Plucheck hit into a fielders choice but it did score Hale to give them a 3-1 lead.
Prairie View A&M cut the lead to one run in the bottom of the eighth inning when Sam Houston State Greg Olson walked Darryl Johnson with the bases loaded to make it a 3-2 game.
Sam Houston State scored an insurance run in the top of the ninth when Atwood had his third RBI of the game on a fielders choice which scored Plumlee's second run of the game.
Plumlee went 3-for-4 with two runs and Atwood went 1-for-5 but had three RBI to lead the way for Sam Houston State.
