London Olympics 2012: American Gymnasts In 8th Place

Jake Dalton led off the U.S. gymnastics team in its third rotation on the still ring with a 15.033, 2008 Olympic veteran Jonathan Horton had a 15.266 and John Orozco, who has aspirations of winning an all-around gold medal, had a difficult showing in which the rings moved constantly. With these numbers, the Americans continued their trend of scoring a lower number than it had in qualifying.

Orozco had the team low of 14.958, even though he was last up for the U.S., in the spot where the highest score should be expected.

Through the first three rotations, the U.S. is in eighth place, more than eight points behind leading China and more than six points out of a medal position. Japan is second and Great Britain is third.

Horton is a Houston native.
