Tyrann Mathieu's dismissal from the LSU football program has been a surprise for a lot of college football fans, who likely expected him be a Heisman Trophy candidate once again this season. It's not going to happen obviously. The SEC Defensive Player of the Year is going to have to finish his college career elsewhere.
SB Nation's college football editor Jason Kirk notes that Mathieu won't get to play this season on the FBS level unless he's given special clearance by the NCAA. But Division II programs are possibilities.
Kirk:
Ordinarily, this would be the signal for a move to Valdosta State, North Alabama, or any of the other Division II programs that have made their names by providing homes for wayward college football players kicked out by top programs. We'll have to wait and see where he ends up, but Joe Schad reported he'd already begun looking for a new home before the news broke.
