The Houston Texans defense shutout the Carolina Panthers in the second half as they doubled up to win 26-13 in both teams first preseason game. At the half the Texans and Panthers were tied at 13, but in the second half it was all Texans. In the second half the Texans had a pair of field goals and a 3-yard touchdown run by Jonathan Grimes.
That touchdown drive for the Texans was a 11-play, 61 yard drive that was led by John Beck, and on that drive he completed 1-of-2 passes for 21 yards. On the day Beck completed 4-of-6 passes for 46 yards.
Rookie and former Houston Cougar quarterback Case Keenum. On that drive, Keenum completed two passes for 33 yards, rushed for nine yards and was sacked. The best quarterback on the day for the Texans was back up T.J. Yates who completed 8-of-12 passes for 89 yards, but he was unable to lead the team to a touchdown drive.
