The Houston Dynamo fell to third place in the MLS Eastern Conference standings after last weekend's matches concluded. In the Dynamo's own match last Friday, its five-match win streak (and related surge up the standings) was halted in a 2-0 loss to New York.
Two weeks ago, a win over the Red Bulls (12-7-5, 41 points) helped the Dynamo (11-6-7, 40 points) to second place in the conference. But Houston surrendered two second-half goals to Markus Holgersson (61st minute) and Jan Gunnar Solli (90th minute) in Friday's loss to the Red Bulls. That loss gave the points earned on August 3rd right back to New York, who now sits in second.
Sporting KC (13-7-4, 43 points) posted a win over fifth-place DC United on Saturday to claim the conference lead with 10 matches left. Houston may need a measure of help down the stretch, as of the two teams ahead of them, the Dynamo plays only one game against them (at Sporting KC on September 14th).
