Rockets Offseason: Kevin McHale Adds Dean Cooper To Coaching Staff

Houston Rockets head coach Kevin McHale has added Dean Cooper to his coaching staff, according to Jerry Zgoda of the Star Tribune.

Cooper has spent the past two seasons as the Director of Player Development for the Portland Trailblazers, and worked with the Minnesota Timberwolves before that. He began his NBA career with the Rockets in 1999 as a video coordinator and scout. A couple of years after that, he became an assistant coach under Rudy Tomjanovich.

McHale guided the Rockets to a 34-32 finish in 2012, which placed them just two games behind the Utah Jazz for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference. His team has had a busy offseason, as they pried Jeremy Lin away from the New York Knicks, made a run at Dwight Howard and dealt away Kyle Lowry and Marcus Camby.
