2012 U.S. Open Results: Clijsters Retires, Isner And Sharapova Win On Day 3

Accomplished women's tennis player Kim Clijsters likely finished her career in a 7-6, 7-6 loss to England's Laura Robson on Wednesday at the 2012 U.S. Open. The three-time U.S. Open champion is set to retire.

Also in women's singles, No. 3 seed Maria Sharapova posted a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Lourdes Domínguez Lino in just under an hour. Sharapova will face American Mallory Burdette in the third round.

In men's singles, American John Isner took down Xavier Malisse in his first-round match, 6-3, 7-6, 5-7, and 7-6, while Juan Martin del Potro defeated Florent Serra in straight sets (6-4, 7-6, 6-4). Elsewhere in the men's bracket, Olympic gold medalist Andy Murray defeated Croatia's Ivan Dodig, 6-2, 6-1, 6-3. He will face the winner of a match between two Spaniards, Feliciano Lopez and Pablo Andujar, in the third round.

Serena and Venus Williams got started in women's doubles, beating Lindsay Lee-Waters and Megan Moulton-Levy, 6-4, 6-0, in their first-round match.
