The United States grabbed four medals thanks to track and field on Tuesday, but still trail the Chinese in the overall medal count as well as the gold, and hey now, check out those Brits! The usual home field advantage has paid off again, as the host Brits are in third place with 48 medals (22 gold) aided by Saturday's six-gold effort.
There's still a chance for the Americans to catch China in the home stretch, especially with the conclusion of many track and field events yet to come, but the window is beginning to close. It's possible that these Olympic Games could see a repeat of the finish in Beijing in 2008, when the Chinese boasted the most gold, but the U.S. the most medals.
