2012 Olympics Medal Count: USA Leads Overall, China Leads Gold

After an excellent day in track and field, the United States finds itself at the top of the overall medal count at the 2012 Olympics.

The USA leads the way with 81 overall medals, capturing 34 gold, 22 silver and 25 bronze medals through Wednesday's events in London.

China isn't far behind on the overall medal count. The Chinese have captured 77 medals overall, including an Olympics-high 36 gold medals. Chinese Olympians have also captured 22 silver and 19 bronze medals through Wednesday's events.

Russia is a distant third, with 52 medals overall. The Russians only have 11 golds to boot, along with 19 silver and 22 bronze.

Host nation Great Britain and Germany round out the top five. Great Britain has 48, including 22 gold, while Germany has just 32 medals -- and only seven gold.
