2012 FedEx Cup Standings: Rory McIlroy Extends Lead, Texans Drop Out

With consecutive FedEx Cup victories in the past two weeks, Rory McIlroy has extended his lead to 3,232 points as the FedEx Cup Playoffs approaches its final event.

McIlroy shot a final-round five under par on Sunday to claim the BMW Championship trophy at 20 under par. McIlroy defeated Lee Westwood and Phil Mickelson by two strokes at the Carmel, Indiana event a week after winning the Deutche Bank Championship in Boston.

Mickelson's tied-for-second finish moved him from ninth-place all the way up to fourth, while Tiger Woods' fourth-place finish helped him overtake Nick Watney for second place in the standings.

The results of the BMW Championship cut the FedEx Cup Playoffs field to 30, and those 30 players will face off in the Tour Championship on September 17, which will be held at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, Georgia.

The cut to 30 meant the end of the playoffs for golfers with Houston-area connections. Former Texas alum Bob Estes tied for 37th in the tournament, which placed his final ranking at 58th place. Former Texas A&M Aggie Ryan Palmer finished ranked 55th.

Below is the top 10 headed into the playoff's final event (with the full 30 here).
