After pitting itself against the Big 12's Baylor Bears and losing 48-23, Sam Houston State fell to third in both prominent national NCAA FCS polls, reports The Huntsville Item.
It is a school-record 15th consecutive week that the Bearkats (1-1) are ranked in the top 25, following an unbeaten 11-0 regular season in 2011 that ultimately ended in a loss in the national championship game to North Dakota State. They finished the season at No. 2.
Sitting above Sam Houston State in this week's Sports Network FCS Top 25 poll are defending champion North Dakota State (2-0) and Montana State (3-0). The Bearkats, however, were among four teams to still receive first-place votes along with the two schools above them in the rankings and No. 4 Youngstown State (3-0).
Sam Houston State will stay on the road this Saturday when it takes on Central Arkansas at 3 p.m. CT.
