The Sam Houston State Bearkats lead the Texas Southern Tigers at halftime, 33-6. Sam Houston got off to a 14-0 start against Texas Southern in the first quarter, before extending their lead in the second.

SHSU quarterback Brian Bell found Terrance Robinson for a 60-yard touchdown to put the Kats up early in the first quarter. It took just two plays and 50 seconds for SHSU to reach end zone. Later in the quarter, Bell found Trey Diller on the strong side after a triple option toss for a 32-yard touchdown run.

The Tigers scored early in the second quarter, but on the point after touchdown attempt, the Bearkats blocked the field goal and defensive back Ken Jenkins returned it to the house for a two-point conversion for SHSU. That made the score 16-7.
