Zach Mettenberger is officially under the microscope.
Coming off of a 41-14 LSU victory over North Texas, you'd think that there wouldn't be a lot to critique. You'd be wrong with that train of thought.
Mettenberger drew plenty of criticism, despite leading the Tigers in the blowout victory.
Here's what we learned about Zach Mettenberger in his LSU debut.
The kid has a heart as big as his right arm.
Otherwise, there wasn't much to glean from Mettenberger's ballyhooed opening performance as the Tigers' starting quarterback.
As debuts go, Mettenberger's fell somewhere between uninspiring and workmanlike. If I were to give it a grade, I'd call it incomplete.
Hardly the type of criticism you like to see for a starting quarterback.
LSU head coach Les Miles did have some nice things to say about his quarterback, however.
"I liked Mettenberger," Miles said. "He took a punch to the mouth and got up. He will learn to take what the defense is giving you more than pressing."
Mettenberger will face a tougher test on Saturday when the LSU Tigers play host to the Washington Huskies.
