Steve Wheatcroft moved into first place on the leaderboard of the 2013 Shell Houston Open with a one-stroke lead on Friday. Wheatcroft matched his opening day total of 5-under-par 67, while a number of the golfers who were ahead of him entering play struggled to keep up.
D.A. Points, the leader at the start of Friday, shot 71 to fall one-stroke behind into a tie for second place. Cameron Tringale, who entered Friday in a tie for second place, fell four spots to sixth after finishing 1-over on the day. John Rollins, who was also in second place, finished 2-over to end Friday five-strokes back of Wheatcroft.
Wheatcroft surged after making the turn, scoring birdies on three of four holes. Jason Kokrak, who at 9-under total now sits in second place, kept pace with Wheatcroft for much of the day, but faltered with a double bogey at the 17th hole to knock him back.
Stewart Cink was one of the biggest movers of the day, finishing 6-under to move into a tie for fourth place.
