Former Houston radio man Alan Ashby, who has been calling games with the Blue Jays since 2007, is given a chance to speak about the openings in Houston.

Alan Ashby, a former Houston Astros catcher for 11 seasons and Astros radio broadcaster for eight season before moving up to broadcast Toronto Blue Jays games, has reportedly been given permission to speak with the Astros about a return to their radio booth.

The Toronto Sun's Bob Elliot was first with the news that Ashby, a resident of Houston, was allowed to speak with the Astros about a vacancy created when Milo Hamilton announced he would be retiring and Brett Dolan and Dave Raymond's contracts would not be renewed.

Ashby has provided color commentary for Blue Jays games alongside play-by-play man Jerry Howarth since 2007.

Before joining the radio booth with the Astros in 1998, Ashby served as a minor league manager with the Astros Single-A affiliate and then as bullpen coach for Houston in the 1997 season.

A successful catcher, Ashby collected more than 1,000 hits and more than 500 RBI in a 17-year career with the Astors, Blue Jays and Cleveland Indians.

A quarter that opened with a Johnathan Joseph 52-yard interception return for a touchdown was capped by a Owen Daniels touchdown pass and two Shayne Graham field goals to give the Houston Texans a 29-3 lead over the Baltimore Ravens at halftime.

In the Sunday-afternoon showdown from Reliant Stadium in Houston, the Texans have scored 29 unanswered points after surrendering an early 51-yard field goal to Ravens kicker Justin Tucker.

Despite the return of Terrell Suggs to the Ravens' defensive front, Texans quarterback has been able to weather the Ravens defensive attack, tossing two touchdown passes on the day through the first two quarters.

On the other hand, the Texans defense has been able to hold Joe Flacco and the Ravens offense at bay, as Flacco has been sacked for a safety and has been intercepted twice on the day. Flacco has completed just seven passes for 50 yards. Ravens running back Ray Rice has 35 yards on six attempts on the day.

Texans running back Arian Foster has rushed for 53 yards on nine carries thus far.

An early Sunday-afternoon showdown between the Houston Texans and Baltimore Ravens has been a defensive battle to start, with the Texans up 9-3, after a quarter at Reliant Stadium in Houston.

Justin Tucker connected on a 51-yard field goal to give the Ravens a 3-0 lead after an 8-play, 45-yard drive that lasted nearly three minutes. With Houston struggling to score, the Texans were able to register a safety — sacking Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco in the end zone with five minutes remaining in the period to bring the score to 3-2.

Finally, with the first quarter coming to a close, Houston quarterback Matt Schaub connected with wide receiver Kevin Walter for the game's first touchdown to put the Texans up.

Terrell Suggs' return to the lineup had been the story of the game leading up to the Sunday afternoon kickoff, and Suggs and the Ravens defense had kept the Texans from gathering offensive momentum in the first quarter until they scored their touchdown. Suggs recorded a sack against Schaub in the quarter.
