The Houston Cougar softball team will get an opportunity to put that Big XII-slaying reputation on the line in the NCAA tournament. The Cougars took a loss in the semifinals of the Conference USA tournament, but still earned an at-large berth, the team found out on Sunday evening.
The Cougars will head up to Austin, to a regional hosted by Texas-Austin. Houston is the #2 seed in the regional, and will face off against #3 seed Louisiana-Lafayette to kick things off. Ironically, the last time Houston was in the NCAA tournament, the year was 2008, and their tournament run ended with a two-of-three Super Regional loss to the very same Ragin' Cajuns.
Louisiana-Lafayette is also the alma mater of Cougar head coach Kyla Holas.
The regional begins on Friday.
