MLB Draft 2011 Prospects: Law's Mock Has Rendon Going To Mariners

Keith Law's newest mock draft for ESPN.com isn't an extremely in-depth piece, but it does have quite a bit of news on the fate for Rice 3B Anthony Rendon. The latest is that while Rendon probably won't be the first pick in the draft, the Mariners will be more than happy to take him at No. 2 overall should his health check out--and Law thinks that it will.

I know Jack Zduriencik went to see both Francisco Lindor and Bubba Starling last week, but everyone I talk to says Seattle is taking Rendon if they're happy with the medicals -- and a very good source told me earlier this week that there is nothing structurally wrong with Rendon's shoulder.

Rendon has battled injuries all season that have sapped his power and kept him from showing the kind of superstar potential most thought he had coming into the year, but he's still been pretty great and as long as the shoulder checks out he's a clear best player available at No.2 overall. Good on the hypothetical Mariners of Keith Law's column for not getting too worked up about the injuries. They could use a player like Rendon in their system.
