When the Rice Owls and Houston Cougars hit the field in Pearl, Mississippi to settle the Conference USA Baseball Championship Saturday night, history will not be on Houston's side. The Owls have, in the truest sense of the word, flat-out dominated the Cougars for a decade.
↵In 14-straight games, the Owls have come out on top against Houston. In their five games against each other in 2011, the Owls were 5-0, and outscored Houston 39-12.
↵Rice's ticket to the NCAA Tournament is of course long-since punched, but the Cougars have a chance to make a significant mark in their school's baseball history if they can pull the big upset today. A win would give the Coogs an automatic bid into the Tournament. Their last tourney appearance was in 2008, when they won the CUSA Tournament with a 3-2 win over Marshall in the final. This of course was another year in which Rice dominated the conference in the regular season, but faltered in the tournament.
↵First pitch in Saturday's Conference USA Championship is scheduled for 7PM, and will be televised on CBS Sports Network.
