According to Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com, the Yankees have spoken to the Astros about acquiring infielder Jeff Keppinger.
Keppinger is due for an arbitration raise, and it was reported that the Astros were interested in moving both him and Matt Lindstrom on the first day of the winter meetings, although no signals had come out of any specific team interest on either of them until now outside of Colorado’s interest in Lindstrom.
If the Astros did deal Keppinger, and not come through on one of their other free agents second base targets such as Bill Hall, Angel Sanchez and Clint Barmes would probably roam the middle of the infield for the Astros this year.
It’s unknown what the Yankees would give up, but it probably wouldn’t be too much considering Keppinger would just be a bench player for them.
