Towles Shines In Win Over Tigers, Bud Norris Shelled By Braves In Astros Split Squad Action

Lakeland, FL (Sports Network) - J.R. Towles went 3-for-4 with a solo homer and two runs batted in, as the Houston Astros got by the Detroit Tigers 3-1 in Grapefruit League action.

Brett Wallace also knocked in a run for Houston, while Ryan Rowland-Smith picked up the win after allowing one run on three hits over a three-inning start.

Ross Wolf earned the save for tossing two innings of scoreless relief.

Magglio Ordonez hit a homer for the lone Detroit run. Max Scherzer got the starting nod and yielded two runs on five hits, walked three and fanned four over 3 1/3 frames to take the loss.

Lake Buena Vista, FL (Sports Network) - Chipper Jones and Wilkin Ramirez each hit two-run homers in Atlanta's 7-1 win over Houston in spring training.

Ramirez ended with two hits and three RBI while Jones finished 2-for-3 for the Braves, who also got two hits from Brian McCann.

Jair Jurrjens pitched the first five innings for the win, surrendering just two hits and fanning four.

Telvin Nash's ninth-inning solo shot accounted for the Astros' lone run. Bud Norris was charged with the loss, giving up five runs on five hits over three innings.
