According to Steve Campbell of the Houston Chronicle, Astros shortstop Clint Barmes, who has been out of action since breaking a bone in his hand in spring training, will begin his rehab assignment on Sunday. Barmes will be playing with Oklahoma City for three games and will receive three plate appearances in the first game and two in the next couple of games on Monday and Tuesday
This would seem to put him on pace to re-join the Astros for Wednesday’s game against the Cardinals, should he not experience any setbacks. The Astros have been using Angel Sanchez at shortstop in the meantime, and while he got off to a hot start, he has cooled considerably in the past weeks.
Barmes was acquired this offseason for pitcher Felipe Paulino, who has been lit up in relief for the Rockies this season. Paulino currently sports a 8.10 ERA in 6 2/3rds innings for the Rockies.
