Yes, you read that correctly.
↵Humberto Quintero, who would probably be considered the slowest baserunner on the Astros not named Carlos Lee, managed to score from second base on a bunt in yesterday's loss to the Pirates. Quintero has been around in Houston forever, and part of the reason I think he's been able to stay here is that everyone is impressed with his mental acumen for things like this. That or the constant throw-downs with runners on base. Here's Quintero on how he figured it out.
↵↵↵"I talked to [first-base coach Bobby Meacham], and he said [Joe Beimel] took a long time to come to home plate," Quintero said. "So I got a big lead, and I knew he was going to bunt, so I tried to steal the base and go all the way down. I think people didn't think I was going to go home, so I went home."

So it didn't wind up meaning anything for the Astros since Fernando Abad managed to crush hopes and dreams again by giving up a go-ahead three-run homer to Ryan Doumit. It's still a really fun play to watch! That's something, right?
