2011 All-American Rosters Announced

Even though the 2012 draft is almost a year off, one of the things you'll hear is how certain players did in the AFLAC or Perfect Game All-American Showcase. It's one of the many kickoffs to the scouting season for high school players and there are plenty of Houston-area players on the West roster.

You may have already heard about Nick Williams, the outfielder from Galveston who has a chance to be the No. 1 overall pick next year. Don't overlook guys like C.J. Hinojosa from Klein Collins or left-handed pitcher Austin Fairchild from St. Thomas. Fairchild has obviously been under the tutelage of Craig Biggio, which probably enhances him in scout's eyes. But, Hinojosa may end up being the best of the three players.

For instance, Hinojosa did very well last season on the workout circuit, has great baserunning speed and a solid bat. He's also going to be a very good middle infielder down the road. Fairchild is a lefty who's been clocked at 91 on his fastball. Hinojosa is committed to Texas right now while Fairchild is committed to TCU.

There's still a long time from now until the June draft, but it looks like Houston could have three potential first-round picks in this trio. That'd be three more than this season and the first since Jameson Taillon went No. 2 overall to the Pirates last season.
