The Houston Astros continued their quest to find a competent bullpen, claiming 26-year old Lucas Harrell from the White Sox. The "pitch-to-contact" right-hander was in Triple-A before now, and might just head there for Houston, too. But, he might join one of the worst bullpens in the majors and possibly one of the worst bullpens in franchise history.
↵The funny thing is, there are some talented relievers in that 'pen, but inconsistency has plagued them at the worst possible times. Even the best relievers there, like Mark Melancon, Sergio Escalona and Wilton Lopez, have had costly meltdowns in the past.
↵There's also the chance that Harrell is insurance for Houston in case they ever decide that J.A. Happ doesn't deserve to pitch every fifth day. The bad thing about Happ is there aren't many signs he'll turn things around soon (as there are with Brett Myers). Happ's just not a very good pitcher, even as he's one of the better hitters on the team.
↵So, it's anyone's guess where Harrell will fit in. I wouldn't be surprised if he makes the bullpen and I wouldn't be surprised if he replaces Happ. I also won't be surprised if he's no better than Aneury Rodriguez.
