Struggling J.A. Happ Demoted To The Minors

Well, it was only a matter of time until the Astros made a decision about J.A. Happ's recent struggles.

↵

Brad Mills announced this afternoon that Happ will be joining Oklahoma City for two to three starts and he had the following to say about his left-hander:

"He needs to gain confidence. Everyone knows, and he knows, his stuff is good enough to pitch extremely well here."

We don't know who will be taking his spot in the rotation, but I'm guessing Aneury Rodriguez will be the guy. In corresponding moves, the team has also called up Wesley Wright and Jeff Fulchino while placing Enerio Del Rosario on the disabled list with a shoulder strain.

Happ, the centerpiece of last year's Roy Oswalt deal with the Phillies, has had a very rough season thus far going 4-14 with a 6.26 ERA. He has also allowed at least five runs in eight consecutive starts, and this is probably the right move.

I still have some hope that Happ can succeed at the major league level, but it's pretty clear that he needs to work on his mechanics down in the minors.
