Let's get one thing out of the way first of all: Chris Jaffe of The Hardball Times is much, much smarter than me. What he does with his Hall of Fame projections is detailed and very, very informed. So, take what he says very seriously, especially when he talks about Craig Biggio's HOF chances.
↵↵↵A week ago, I assumed that Biggio was doomed on this messy ballot. That would set off the real nightmare, because if everyone from this year’s vote went into next year, it would be that much harder for anyone to rise up.
↵
But Biggio should go in next year. No one else should.
Read the whole article for his justification, but basically, Jaffe says that Biggio should follow a path close to Robin Yount, who went in on a tough ballot but still got enough to get elected. Even with the steriod swirls, Biggio should still come very, very close to that 75 percent mark.
↵After the whole Bagwell fiasco the past two years, it'll be nice to finally get some good news from the Hall on an Astro.
