Kudos to Jim Crane for being forward-thinking. Truth be told, I really didn't feel like coming down on him about the "proposed" name change when he brought it up as kind of an afterthought. I didn't think it was happening, but once it was in play, felt it was necessary for the new front office to see as much fan outrage as possible.
↵They did look into it, and found 80 percent of fans against the move. Here's Crane's money quote:
↵↵↵"If you were running for office and you could get 80 percent, you're in pretty good shape," Crane said. "So, we immediately came back and said we weren't going to change the name and we'd take a look at the uniforms and the logo next year when we go to the American League."

Those early 90's rainbow unis are the one's that need to come back. The older 70's models may be popular as throwbacks, but the ones Bagwell and Biggio wore before 1994 were the best. Maybe that's just b/c they were the unis when I was growing up.
