Brett Wallace Getting Another Shot At Third

Well, he can't be as much of a butcher as Chris Johnson, right? That's got to be the thinking the Astros had when they told Brett Wallace recently that they'd like him to work on playing third base, the position he was originally drafted at under new Astros GM Jeff Luhnow in St. Louis.

Wallace struggled last season with the bat, finally losing his job at first base to Carlos Lee, who moved in from left field. Since Lee is seemingly entrenched at first (what??), it means Wallace will be headed across the diamond, though he didn't exactly flash above-average range or a great arm when he was playing first.

No, this is clearly just a move to try and get his bat into the lineup while simultaneously making Houston have a historically bad defense. Even worse than I though, actually. Will Wallace make the transition?

↵

Yeah, he probably will and he'll probably see time at third this season. In fact, he'd make a nice platoon with Chris Johnson there at third. They'd be horrible defensively, but they'd give Mills a chance to take out Wallace against left-handers like you know he's going to do.

Of course, all this is moot if Jimmy Paredes jumps up and wins the starting job in spring training, right?
