MLB Draft 2012: C.J. Hinojosa, SS, Klein Collins HS

Really great write-up on the Houston area's best draft prospect for 2012, Klein Collins shortstop C.J. Hinojosa. Here's just a sample:

At the plate, Hinojosa drives the ball to all fields with authority. He has no problem with velocity, shows great plate coverage and a strong understanding of the strike zone. Hinojosa has good bat speed and surprising pull power for his 5-foot-11, 185-pound size.

Oh, there's more. The senior has started using wooden bats in games to get ready for pro ball, I guess. That's despite the fact that high school baseball moved to the BBCOR bat models which resemble the effects of wood bats.

↵

I had thought Hinojosa graduated early so he could attend the University of Texas, but apparently, he couldn't get his classes taken care of. That means he'll be eligible for the 2012 draft and should go pretty highly, since he's a good bet to stick at shortstop and possesses what could be an above-average bat for the position.

↵

I don't think he'll fit into Houston's plans, unless he drops into the supplemental round. Then, as an up-the-middle player, you know Bobby Heck might take a gamble on a good, young shortstop like him.
