Wandy Rodriguez Named Astros Opening Day Starter

Wandy Rodriguez will be Houston's Opening Day starter next Friday when the Astros open the 2012 season against the Colorado Rockies.

Not that it's a surprise to anybody, but it's now official: Wandy Rodriguez be the Opening Day starter for the Houston Astros.

Rodriguez is the logical choice, and certainly the most deserving of all of Houston's pitchers. Since 2009, Rodriguez has gone 36-35 for the Astros, with a very respectable 3.36 ERA in that span. Rodriguez has been durable too, making at least 30 starts for the Astros in each season since 2009.

It will be the first Opening Day start for Rodriguez. Last year, Brett Myers, who is now Houston's closer, earned the Opening Day nod against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Rodriguez and the Astros will open the 2012 season at home against the Colorado Rockies on Friday, April 6 at 6:05 p.m.
