Jed Lowrie's RBI single in the bottom of the eighth broke a 3-3 tie as the Astros opened up a nine-game homestand with a 4-3 win in the series-opener against the Mets.
Lowrie went 2-for-4 on the day. Bud Norris got the start and gave up three earned runs over 6 2/3 innings in a no-decision. All three runs Norris gave up came in the seventh inning. New York's three-run inning game after the Astros scored three in the bottom of the sixth.
Matt Downs went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run. Only three Astros recorded hits. Along with Downs and Lowrie, Jordan Schafer went 2-for-4 with two runs scored. The Astros used five pitchers in the final 2 1/3 innings. Fernando Rodriguez picked up the win, pitching 1/3 of an inning to close out the eighth. Brett Myers threw a perfect ninth to pick up the save.
Houston is now 5-5 at home on the season.
