A blown save by closer Brett Myers in the ninth spoiled a fine outing by Wandy Rodriguez and opened the door for a 3-2 loss in 12 innings to the Pittsburgh Pirates.
The Astros fell behind early on an Andrew McCutchen RBI double to left in the first inning. Rodriguez would settle down after that and was pretty much untouchable the rest of the way. Houston tied things up in the fifth on a Jastro RBI single and took the lead in the seventh on an RBI single by Chris Johnson.
The score would remain 2-1 until the ninth when Myers loaded the bases and surrendered a game-tying sac fly to Pedro Alvarez. Myers worked his way out of the jam but the damage was done as the game shifted into extra innings. Pittsburgh broke through in the 12th when Clint Barmes hit a two out double and Josh Harrison followed with the game-winning single off of Fernando Rodriguez.
Carlos Lee and Jason Castro finished with two hits each for the Astros. Neil Walker went 2 for 5 for the Pirates. Tony Watson earns his third win of the season with a perfect inning of relief. Rodriguez suffers his fourth loss after allowing two hits and one run while failing to record an out.
