Astros Vs. Diamondbacks: Houston Drops Game 1 of Weekend Series to Arizona 3-1

The Houston Astros lost 3-1 to the Arizona Diamondbacks at Minute Maid Park despite a solid pitching performance from starter Dallas Keuchel. The game remained scoreless through four innings, when the Diamondbacks opened the scoring with a sacrifice by pitcher Wade Miley. Chris Young followed with a double to left, scoring Wil Nieves and giving the Diamondbacks a 2-0 lead. The Astros clawed one run back in the bottom half of the fifth when a Tyler Greene sacrifice fly plated Marwin Gonzalez. The Diamondbacks added an insurance run in the eighth inning, when a Paul Goldschmidt double scored Aaron Hill.

Keuchel picked up the loss despite contributing a solid 6 2/3 innings of work, giving up just two earned runs on four hits and striking out three. The performance was Keuchel's third consecutive quality start in August. Arizona starter Wade Miley was credited with the win after scattering eight hits over six innings. Diamondbacks closer J.J. Putz got the save, his 24th of the season.
