Houston Astros assistant general manager David Gottfried will not have his contract renewed, the team announced late Tuesday night, according to MLB.com's Brian McTaggart. Gottfried has worked for the Astros for the last 14 years and is a veteran of more than 20 years in baseball.

The move continues a string of similar releases in the Astros front office, with the team currently sporting the league's worst record (45-97) by 10 games. Director of scouting Ricky Bennett and assistant general manager Bobby Heck were also both recently told their contracts would not be renewed.

Gottfried is in his sixth season as the Astros' assistant general manager for player relations. Prior to receiving that title in December 2006, Gottfried spent eight years as the club's director of minor league administration and senior director of baseball operations. He has also worked as an administrator of the Arizona Fall League and as a general manager of the Oakland Athletics' Class-A affiliate in Modesto, Calif.
