Astros Vs. Reds: Houston Records Rare Series Win, Matt Dominguez Homers Again

The Houston Astros won two out of three games against the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday and behold, the Stros have won just as many games as they've lost so far this month.

Five was the lucky number in the Houston Astros series win against the National League Central Division leading Cincinnati Reds. The winner in each of these three games scoring five runs is just as big of a coincidence as the Stros recording their first series win in almost a month.

Here's the fun part about rooting for the worst team in Major League Baseball: no team wants to lose to you, especially not a whole series, because it's embarrassing. The Reds get the last laugh, despite going 3-3 in the last week and change against the Stros.

Cincinnati will go to the playoffs and contend for a World Series this season, and leave those games against Houston in distant memory, but for now, it's the Stros who are bad enough to be able to celebrate winning four of their last eight games.

Matt Dominguez is hitting .361 in his 37 plate appearances with the Astros, which include his walkoff homer in the first game of this Reds series, then his three-run shot on Sunday. Dominguez was brought over in the Carlos Lee trade in July and spent some time with Triple-A Oklahoma City Redhawks. He hit .298 in OKC and was playing the best baseball of his professional career.

Needless to say the Astros are happy to have him and the Reds couldn't care less if they ever see him again, since all three of his big league home runs this year have come at Cincy's expense.

Here are some of Dominguez's comments after Sunday's game:

"I feel good and relaxed," he said. "I'm getting good pitches to hit and getting the barrel on the ball. Hitting home runs of two of the best pitchers in the game will boost my confidence for the rest of the season."

Not a lot of games to go this season but Dominguez's development could be fun to watch.
