Injury Ends Nicholson's Career

Houston Cougar linebacker Matt Nicholson will have surgery this week to repair a torn meniscus, ending his senior season, according to a tweet by Steve Campbell.

Nicholson has been a valuable contributor during his entire tenure at UH, and is widely recognized as a team leader and workout machine, but has now seen three straight seasons end due to knee injuries. He is currently tied for second on the team with 57 tackles.

After Nicholson went down during the Texas Tech game a year ago, the entire defense took a noticeable step back in his absence. With more depth in the linebacking corps than a year ago, hopefully we won't see a repeat performance. Freshmen Efrem Oliphant and George Bamfo will have to step up.
