Houston, TX (Sports Network) – Derrick Williams’ double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds lifted the Arizona Wildcats to an 84-57 victory over the Rice Owls in a non-conference battle at the Tudor Fieldhouse.
Jamelle Horne scored 15 points in the win for Arizona (6-1), while Lamont Jones and Jordin Mayes netted 11 points apiece.
Rice (3-4) was led by Arsalan Kazemi’s 17 points, while Tamir Jackson and Connor Frizzelle contributed double-digit performances, scoring 13 and 11 points, respectively.
Arizona took a 37-21 advantage into the intermission after holding the Owls to a lackluster 30.0 percent shooting from the floor in the opening half.
The Wildcats cruised to victory after sinking a healthy 66.7 percent of their shots in the second stanza.
Arizona was deadly from long range, connecting on 42.4 percent of its three- pointers in the win, including 7-of-11 in the final 20 minutes.
