Heading into this weekend the Houston Cougars did not control their own BCS fate due that they were stuck behind fellow non-AQ Boise St. Broncos in the standings. Houston easily defeated the Tulane Green Wave on Thursday night and were needing a Boise State loss to the TCU Horned Frogs to have a shot at the BCS. Houston got their wish as Boise State lost to TCU on Saturday, so Houston now controls their own destiny for a BCS bowl game if they can win out.
Even though in the latest Week 12 BCS projections it is likely that Houston will be ranked behind Boise State, but for a non-AQ team to earn an automatic spot for the BCS a conference championship is required as well as being ranked in the top-12 of the final BCS standings. Houston is expected to be No. 11 once the BCS standings are released this evening.
