Kevin Sumlin Talking Contract Extension With Houston, Other Schools Interested

According to a report by the Houston Chronicle, Kevin Sumlin has had preliminary discussions with Houston about a contract extension. The Cougars success this season will have Sumlin high up on many school's wish lists.

Kevin Sumlin has guided the Houston Cougars to a 12-0 record this season and that is going to put him in demand as many schools begin the process for looking for their next football coach. However, Sumlin might not be on the market for long as he has begun preliminary discussions with Houston about a contract extension according to a report by the Houston Chronicle.

"There's just so much going on right now, trying to win a conference championship and trying to remain focused on our original goal, that I think both of us are more comfortable, certainly I am, doing that after the season," Sumlin said. "We've had a couple discussions...about things in general. Like I said, I know that I'm more comfortable doing that after the season and I think he is too."

Sumlin may not come cheap however as Arizona State has identified Sumlin as their primary target to replace the departed Dennis Erickson. He also figures to be pursued by UCLA and Texas A&M could also move into the picture if they decide to fire Mike Sherman.

Sumlin is 35-16 in four seasons at Houston and the Cougars play in the Conference USA Championship game on Saturday.
