National Signing Day 2011: Emeka Okafor, Not The NBA Player, Signs With Houston Cougars

The Houston Cougars didn’t sign the most highly-rated recruiting class on National Signing Day 2011, but they might have signed one of the most recognizable names of the year when they brought in Sunnyvale High School’s Emeka Okafor.

Okafor, a 6-foot-5, 320-pound offensive guard out of Sunnyvale, TX, is no relation to the NBA player with the same name but he does play basketball and even averaged 16.3 points and 10.5 rebounds as a sophomore.

Okafor played offensive guard as a senior and tackle as a junior so it will be interesting to see where he ends up in the scheme of things once he’s on campus in Houston.

Okafor is the first athlete from Sunnyvale High School to earn a full scholarship and was the district champion in the shot put as a junior. He chose Houston over North Texas, SMU and UTEP.
