The Bracket Project And Texas College Hoops

As we wait for that magical tournament that will rule the sports land for all of March to have it's field formed so that we may dissect the matchups and fill in our brackets to see who will visit Houston for the Final Four, some of us have gone ahead and looked at early projections of the field. ESPN has them, Yahoo! has them, The Sporting News has them. It's a popular projection at this time of year.

So what happens when you aggregate just about every college basketball bracket projection into one bracket whilst averaging the results? You get The Bracket Matrix. Brought to you by the folks at the Bracket Project.

How are the Houston Cougars and Rice Owls faring? Uh...yeah, lets just talk about Texas teams. The Texas Longhorns are currently in a dogfight with the Duke Blue Devils for the last #1 seed, a fight that they are losing on average. The Texas A&M Aggies are currently checking in with a #6 seed, right next to their fellow Big 12'ers, the Missouri Tigers. Finally, the Texas Southern Tigers are projected as a #16 seed, although they would obviously need to finish the job by winning the SWAC conference tourney to qualify.

The Baylor Bears are one of the last eight teams out, garnering consideration in 13 of the 68 brackets right now. The Memphis Tigers, Conference USA's projected winner, have a #11 seed, while the UAB Blazers, UTEP Miners, and Southern MIss. Golden Eagles are all knocking on the door in the last eight out. It's going to be an important couple of weeks for those teams.

And if the Cougars want to go on another miracle run and crash the party again, that'd be swell too.
