Hoping to claw their way to back a .500 record after an 0-3 start, the Houston Cougars will look to keep things going on Saturday afternoon against the UAB Blazers at Robertson Stadium.
The Cougars put forth 79 total points to drop both Rice and North Texas in consecutive weeks, and now have their sights on a third consecutive win on their home field. After tossing five interceptions in a blowout loss to UCLA in Week 3, Houston quarterback David Piland has responded nicely with a pair of clutch 300-yard passing efforts over his last two games. A 6'3 sophomore from Southlake, Texas, who usually stays in the pocket, Piland's 86-yard scamper against the Bruins remains the longest play from scrimmage for the Cougars this season.
The Blazers, despite being 1-4 overall, will enter Saturday's game having not yet beaten a Division I opponent this season. Although UAB brings the 21st-ranked passing offense with 303.4 yards per game, the Blazers will be forced to rely on the shaky arm of freshman Austin Brown in a tough environment.
