Cougars attempt to bounce back from SMU loss against Miners.

Jim Cowsert-US PRESSWIRE

Houston will look to rebound from last week's loss to SMU Saturday when they play the UTEP Miners at Robertson Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 CT.

The Cougars had won three straight games heading into last week's contest, evening their record at 3-3 but gave up 72 points in a loss to the Mustangs. Nevertheless, Houston remains in contention in Conference USA West at 2-1, mostly due to an offense that is third in the country in passing yards per game. Quarterback David Piland has thrown for 2264 yards and ten touchdowns through Houston's first seven games, and the Cougars have not been held below 35 points since a Week 3 loss to UCLA.

UTEP showed early promise by hanging tight with Oklahoma in Week 1, but has struggled since. The Miners have scored just 17 points per game, one of the country's worst averages. Wide receiver Jordan Leslie has been a bright spot, racking up 618 receiving yards and four touchdowns. The Miners did get their first conference win of the season last week, beating Tulane.

Houston is a thirteen-point favorite. Television coverage is available on CSS.
