Houston vs. Marshall: Bowl eligibility battle begins

When the Houston Cougars meet the Marshall Thundering Herd over the weekend, they'll both be looking for Bowl eligibility.

Jim Cowsert-US PRESSWIRE

There will be bowl game implications when the Houston Cougars take on the Marshall Thundering Herd on Saturday. Both teams will enter the C-USA contest at 4-6 on the season, and both are third place in their side of the conference.

With only two games left in the season for both teams, they each need to win out if they want to hit bowl eligibility. Following the Saturday clash, Marshall will face off against East Carolina while the Cougars play Tulane.

Marshall has put out one of the best offenses in the country this season, third in the nation in passing yards per game thanks to quarterback Rakeem Cato. Cato is fifth in the nation in total offense for a player and has helped the Marshall attack put up an average of 38.8 points per game.

The Cougars have lost two straight games, while the Thundering Herd have been trading off wins and losses all year. They are on a one-game losing streak right now after dropping a game against UAB last weekend.

The game will be at Joan C. Edwards Stadium at 11 a.m. CT. It will be televised on Comcast Sports South.
