Case Keenum Injury: Houston Cougars QB Struggles With Hamstring During Pro Day

The Houston Cougars had a decent pro-day, but nothing too impressive.

Houston Cougars quarterback Case Keenum didn't want to make excuses at the team's Pro Day on Monday, but he suffered a sprained hamstring in his second attempt at the 40-yard dash while participating in the NFL Combine in Indianapolis last month.

Keenum also said there were definitely some balls that he would like to have back and that the workout was more of a test of conditioning than a lot of the players thought it would be. The Cougars weren't quite as crisp as they wanted to be, but Keenum still thought the guys looked pretty good.

Even though struggling with an injury, Keenum decided to make the throws on Monday anyway, with at least 21 NFL teams with scouts on hand.

"I strained my hamstring on the second 40," Keenum said on Monday after his performance at UH's pro day. "I'm not a track guy or 400-hurdler or haven't qualified for the Olympics but I think I was trying to at that point, trying to run a 4.3. But strained my hamstring on the second 40 and it kind of put me in a funk. I went over to see the trainers and (quarterbacks) were already warming up throwing. I'm not going to make excuses and I didn't that day. I said ‘I"m out here, I'm going to throw.' But it definitely wasn't me at my best."

Here were the best marks of the day for other Houston players:

40-yard dash: Nick Saenz (4.46 seconds)
Bench press: David Hunter (32 reps)
Broad jump: E.J. Smith (10 feet, two inches)
Vertical jump: Sammy Brown (37 inches)
Three-cone drill: Marcus McGraw (7.08 seconds)
20-yard shuttle: Nick Saenz (4.20 seconds)
60-yard shuttle: Patrick Edwards (11.28 seconds)
