Both teams broke out of the gate early and played physical, attacking soccer in an effort to take control of the match quickly.
It was the Houston Dynamo who were able draw first flood, though, when defender Andrew Hainault blasted in a ball early in the first half. The goal was the came off of a corner kick where Union goalkeeper Brad Knighton punched the initial shot from Brad Davis away and into the path of Hainault who fired into the back of the net.
The Dynamo had a number of chances throughout the first half but were unable to convert.
The Union were able to keep Houston nervous during the first half as Sebastian Le Toux was dangerous and threatened on a number of attempts. He finally was successful in the 40th minute when he collected a cross from Roger Torres after beating Ryan Cochrane and slotted a shot past Pat Onstad.
The goal demonstrated the ball control Le Toux has and was further proof of the skill he has shown throughout the season.
There should not be too many changes at half time from either team as both teams are still very much in this game and have had their chances. I would expect to see Danny Cruz come on late for Corey Ashe and either Joseph Ngwenya or Cam Weaver subbed on for Brian Ching or Dominic Oduro, who has had a great game so far.
Stay here for more updates as the second half gets under way in just under fifteen minutes.
