The Dynamo used the seventh overall pick in the supplemental draft to snatch goalkeeper Evan Newton, from Old Dominion University. Newton, 23 in April, was Old Dominon’s all-time leader in saves and shutouts over his career, despite playing only three years due to injury.
With Pat Onstad’s retirement, Newton will probably be in the mix with Tyler Deric to back up current keeper Tally Hall.
The Dynamo used their second rounder, the 25th overall pick, on defender/midfielder Sergio Castillo of Creighton. Castillo, 22, was a part of a strong Bluejay defensive squad that never averaged above a 0.79 GAA while he was part of the team. Castillo should be a solid defensive midfielder prospect for the Dynamo, though with the improvements to the club he might not see the field right away this year.
On the clock for a final time, the Dynamo passed in the third round.
